Okay so I use @protonprivacy for my mail and like, they've enabled AI nonsense now and turned it in by default. With @mozilla going full spyware with #Firefox and Proton undermining privacy in a service literally marketed as privacy first, its been a bad week for privacy stuffs.

@tieflingdiotima @protonprivacy @mozilla I think way Proton implemented Scribe is fantastic. It’s opt-in and they give you both local and server-side options. All LLMs are open source and trained on open source. What else could they have done? It’s a model I wish Mozilla had followed.

@moelassus its really up to each person to decide. I don't like it, I don't want it, I worry about the risks of "no log" vs. "E2EE" especially when talking about content of emails. What else? Made it an add-on to be explicitly added by users? Actually I like that idea much better.

@tieflingdiotima @moelassus Hi there, Proton Scribe doesn't do anything unless you enter a prompt after you choose between local/server-side. It does not run in the background and you can completely remove it form the UI by toggling it off.

@protonprivacy then why not have it toggled off by default and allow users to add it if they choose? This makes a lot of us uncomfortable. Are the scribed drafts or w/e stored with full E2EE?

@tieflingdiotima @protonprivacy Seems it's only for business customers and turned off by default according them?https://mastodon.social/@protonprivacy/112814751983760603

@Konghammer I mean I'm Visionary so I'm in the group. And mine was like... on when I took that pic this eve and I only ever log into the site to check settings. Mostly I use the mobile app or the Bridge for desktops. @protonprivacy

@tieflingdiotima @Konghammer No it's not on by default. What you're seeing is simply a reminder in the email composer that you can turn it on. But until you select whether you want to use Scribe on device or on a server, nothing is active. You can also completely remove the option from appearing by toggling it off in the Settings.
