Very little has really changed. Media events like conventions and announcements are always to some degree manufactured. You have every right to be concerned, to want to know what's happening. That isn't foolish or trivial. But consider (please) not *literally* tuning in. Listen with a little delay from a distance. A lot of the nonsense that causes needless stress is filtered out that way and you can be just as informed.

I didn't want to write about this until now. But, there was a version of the RNC speech Trump *could* have given that would have had huge ripple effects and gotten media chattering in a way that could have really helped him.That speech would have required a moment of vulnerability, tears even. It would have required real compassion for those who were injured and killed. It's sort of soothing to know he just isn't capable of that.

America is a very dreamy emotion-driven country. It's one of the things that I find kind of terrifying about this place. A real emotional "arc" could be used to galvanize greater violence. Thank god we didn't get that too on top of everything else. Trump is an amusing entertainer. But not a master manipulator of the soul of a nation needed to pull the act off. Good.

@futurebird Great advice. I’m a complete news junkie but since I really can’t stand the man’s voice I do not tune in to Trumps speeches. I watch podcasts from smart people afterward to learn what I need to know. It’s much more efficient besides being better for my mental health.

@futurebird it is absurd to us but almost like a religious ceremony (apparently)he kissed the fireman's uniform. Kiss. And that's it. Love and respect are reduced to intentionally cynical hugging and kissing of items etc. And somehow it is perceived as authentic by followers. Just like you'd see in a religion.

I am not a US citizen (I should disclose), but the Fedi for me becomes unreadable in times of crisis (US election, the Gaza war). There are a lot of people around that (justified, I cannot or don't want to deny this) feel pain and then go and behave abominable here (probably to get rid of this inner pressure).Do I have point? => Thanks for the advice to keep distance.

@futurebird I caught a piece on NPR yesterday afternoon where they were talking about what Trump *could* say to really galvanize people and simultaneously tone down the violence.
