“Let me tell you this: if you meet a loner, no matter what they tell you, it's not because they enjoy solitude. It's because they have tried to blend into the world before, and people continue to disappoint them.” ― Jodi Picoult

I often wonder how much of us really are introverted loners. I thought I was for most of my childhood, and then in the isolation of adulthood I realized... this sucks and I like being around people. Some of it was my antisocial parents not helping me learn how to make healthy social relationships, but there are more sinister factors in play. It really benefits the ultra rich if you're not socialized. You end up dependent on their antisocial employment and antisocial money just to function in the world. You never have friends to warn you when you're being hoodwinked, or to help you weather personal disasters. Nothing makes the rich man richer like poor people falling into coping mechanisms and inescapable debt.So when you need time to recover after you've been socializing in a big crowd, consider that you don't know who decided that is something only loners experience. When you can't get along with your coworkers who have all been indoctrinated into some cult their whole lives, and pitted against you by your boss, consider that your ability to socialize might not be the problem here. A highly social person of the 1400's would know all 100 people in their village or tribe, be good friends with a handful of them, and that's about it. You don't have to be a supersoldier socialite to realize that you can do better with the help of friends, and there is a lot of pressure to make you think you were born to sit alone in front of a screen.

I understand what you're expressing and agree with parts of it. However, I prefer the flower beds and outdoors. Painting, as notes of Beethoven echo through my paintbrush. Reading a great novel.Baking.Yes, I prefer all of these things to the pretentiousness of many people these days. There is no pressure placed upon me by society to sit in front of a screen, isolating.Do I still have friends? Of course. And were all a bunch of loners.@cy

I didn't say you couldn't be a loner. Reject humanity all you want. All I'm saying is there is pressure placed on us all to be alone, even if you're special, and want to be alone without that pressure. Not sure I would say it's placed "by society," but something sure is placing it on us!
