@protonprivacy @itsfoss Bummer that it requires a Chromium-based browser. What are the plans for those of us who choose Firefox and its forks like LibreWolf?

@protonprivacy Did somebody ask for this? Or it's just a PR move to say that you're with the "cool kids"?Also, we shouldn't need to pay for Mail Plus for access to your Linux app. It's dumb.

@jccpalmer Support for running language models locally is currently only available in the Firefox Nightly builds. In our testing with Firefox, we haven’t been able to get Proton Scribe to run reliably on a variety of devices. We will see how the situation evolves before adding support.

@protonprivacy @Bit_form @itsfoss Nice. What AI model does it use? Is it 'ethically-sourced', or is it just ChatGPT or some other model trained on unlicensed data, and is closed-source?

@protonprivacy echoing the other sentiments. i do not think this should exist at all, but if you’re going to sink to this level it absolutely needs to be opt in. you seem to be suggesting this is the case, but for a privacy-oriented company, this should be very, very explicit. gonna start exploring other options anyway. sigh.

@protonprivacy What was this model trained on?How are the servers (the servers that run the non-local iterations of Proton Scribe) powered?People dislike the invasion of machine learning models for a reason.

@ashinonyx @inherentlee @lori @maggiejk As explained above, it's not running until you select whether you want to run it on a server or on device. What you are seeing in the inbox is simply a spotlight to inform/remind you of the feature. If you don't want to see it at all, you can toggle it off in the Settings.

@lori @inherentlee @ashinonyx @eco_amandine @brhflEvery user (after the update) will be prompted to choose what they want before it's enabled, so I think It is opt-in by default.Or am I understanding it wrong?@protonprivacy I think people here are confused because your link takes them directly to the "Disable Proton Scribe" section of the page, so probably not all of them saw the top of the page which shows that it's not enabled by default.

@joe9nf @lori @inherentlee @ashinonyx @eco_amandine @protonprivacy i just logged in to verify what i’m currently paying as i look to switch providers. proton scribe was turned on by default. now, according to the statement from proton earlier, this may not actually mean that it’s functionally active on my account yet. if that’s true, it’s even more confusing. either way, this absolutely sucks.

@protonprivacy @slavistapl @belha What kind of LLM is it? Is it a fine-tuned version of an open source model or is it trained from scratch? Is it possible that this model will be publicly available soon?
