       I nearly fainted in the supermarket yesterday. The manager got me a chair, a drink and a sandwich to eat, because as it turns out I am not the only one who is skipping meals in order to pay the bills. He told me it happens at least once a week and it's always women. He wanted to give me some groceries to take home but I thanked him and declined. I'd rather die than accept charity.

       @akelai That’s not good. Do you have some sort of community pantry nearby? Not a food bank, one that sells food at reduced prices? Or could you try an app like “Too Good to Go”?

       @akelai I've been in this situation too, please, please take care of yourself. We call these Lembas bread in our gaff because they'll sustain you for ages and are cheap to make.        @akelai consider that allowing others to be generous towards you is doing them a favour. I always scope out dumpsters for diving, but there are many community pantrys that will collect too good to go food that is free and needs to be eaten same day. https://fallingfruit.org/

       @Flick I tried TGTG but it's too much of a hit and miss. One time I got a packet that consisted of yoghurt only. And the one time there was meat in the packet it had gone green. There used to be a shop that sold food close to the sell-by date for bottom prices but they closed shortly after the covid restrictions ended.

       @Brookryn @akelai And yes, while I do fully understand your I don't want to accept impulse, being a stiff necked sod myself, I also know that people offer from the best of motives. Where I come from it was always make sure the widow and her children have their share from thing killed or fish caught etc etc, or work done round the croft for them type thing, so giving where needed is a good thing. Don't become unwell because you feel you cannot take/accept.
