I don't know why there is this notion that getting shot at helps a candidate. It's "sad" but it's also a sign of political chaos. I've been thinking of George Wallace who was shot ... then lost. But there was also Gerald Ford.It's like "The Public" is expected to just respond to events like a dog in an experimental box... not other context, no history, nothing.

@RenewedRebecca @futurebird having been watching this space on Mastodon and in real life over the past two weeks, I feel I can say with certainty that _nobody_ knows what's going on and how that will effect things.After Biden's awful debate performance, everybody I have met IRL wants him to drop out, everybody on here wants him to stay in. And everybody has their own take on Trump colored by their own desires and fears.

@d_j_fitzgerald @RenewedRebecca Do your IRL people want him to drop out because they don't think he can win or are they personally sincerely worried he's too old to do the job and might not be a good president because of his age?Because these are very different IMO. I no longer think about if he should drop out. Because I can't control that only Biden can. I hope they did internal polling and are taking it seriously and making an honest call.

@RenewedRebecca @futurebird everybody is scared, confused, stressed, and traumatized in some way (even MAGAts... you dont get to be that kind of insane without some kind of trauma, and I think COVID lockdown broke a lot of people and made them go full facist)

@futurebird @RenewedRebecca my IRL friends want him to drop out because they are afraid he cant win. He spent the debate (aguably) sundowning and wasnt able to tack Project 2025 right in through middle of Trump's forehead where it belongs. It feels like we're going into the fight for our lives and our champion has stubbornly insisted on being armed only with a penknife
