You've probably heard that Holly Million is stepping down from GNOME Foundation Executive Director. Whilst the discourse around her was really stupid, focusing the shaman thing that didn't matter at all, I do think the Foundation did her a disservice by not talking more about what she was doing, what she had achieved in her short time in the position, what she had planned in the short and long term, and how her earlier roles would aid her in this position.

There was maybe 1 or 2 articles from the GNOME foundation and 1 piece transitively about her from Robert McQueen talking about the GNOME Foundation funding situation. But mostly the Foundation was silently working allowing the public discourse to exist with no real counter measure

@BrodieOnLinux Defending her shamanism as some quirky hobby is weird. She is charging money for it so either a scam artist or very confused about reality.People are very much allowed to call gnome out on hiring such a person

@BrodieOnLinux IDK, to me it looks like the foundation listed her notable achievements, including the 5 year plan. What else do you think they should have listed?Seems that that she didn't want to publicize her past experience very much. Her LinkedIn mentions that she'll share details about her nonprofit experience at request, but she hasn't been publishing it outright. My understanding is that the foundation was trying to respect that.

@AdrianVovk I think more about day to day operations could have been discussed and done so more frequently. A lot of people don't even have a clue what the roll of the Executive Director is in the first place. As for her past experience sure that's fine, my main point was talking more about what she was actually doing in the position and why they felt she was a good fit for the role

@BrodieOnLinux I'll agree that the Foundation could use lots more transparency into their day-to-day operations, and their decision making. I know many of the recently elected directors are interested in increasing the transparency into the foundation, so the future seems better. But you can already find a lot of details in the published meeting minutes. It's not glamorous work. "Board asked Holly to prepare a report". Next meeting: "Holy presented her report". Etc.https://wiki.gnome.org/FoundationBoard/Minutes
