I live in one of those scary 15 minute cities where you can walk to a cafe just down the street and do some work to the sound of mellow jazz music and great coffee. It's a horrifying existence.#urbanism #Malaysia #Cafe #coffee #remotework #15minutecity

@liztai@hachyderm.io The only terrifying thing about this is that you have a Thinkpad without Linux on it.

@adiz @liztai Considering that the kernel, Linux is proprietary software, there is not too massive of a difference between having Linux or the NT kernel on a computer (sure Linux is partially under the GPLv2 (the whole lot should be, but many Linux developers hate freedom just that much) and mostly source-available and so can be cleaned up into 100% freedom GNU Linux-libre, while the NT-kernel is 100% proprietary, with source code unpublished except for illegal leaks). It's quite sad to have a thinkpad but not be running GNU/Linux-libre on it.

@liztai you're allowed to leave without showing your papers at a check point where they verify your carbon allowance or whatever, so it's not technically a "15 minute city" per the concept. it sounds like you want to live in a concentration camp though. not too smart

@Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com You could just install the Linux-libre kernel. @liztai@hachyderm.io

@meowski A city where all basic services are reachable within 15 minutes would be a good thing.A proprietary city with internal passports is how I would describe it.>you're allowed to leave without showing your papers at a check point where they verify your carbon allowance or whateverI really doubt that'll how it'll be implemented.Rather to live in the 15 minute city, it'll be pretty much a hard requirement to carry around a tracking device that operates as an internal passport, ensuring that you travel only to approved locations and carry only only approved behaviors by constantly reporting your whereabouts and listening to what you're saying (this is already implemented, except usually certain businesses gets all of the details and the government can only have access to such if they pay - but future government-business arrangements will certainly be made). There will be no fixed travel radius or permitted distance - rather there will likely be restrictions on the allowed transportation method, with a large fee for breaching that (for example driving an older car not full of botnet, some of which do have emissions that are not bad in the ULEZ zone in London will set you back pretty pounds). There will be no written law that requires the carrying of approved kinds of tracking devices, rather entry into many businesses will be forbidden without a tracking device (this has already been done in the UK in some supermarkets).

@adiz Linux-libre is only a kernel, so there's no need to imply it's an OS by using the naming pattern for OS's with an integrated kernel without a specific name.GNU/Linux != GNU/Linux-libre

@Suiseiseki >I really doubt that'll how it'll be implemented.>proceeds to explain that this is indeed how it will be implemented just with added bells and whistlesif you want to understand how the 15 minute city concept will be implemented, if it's carried out to the ultimate conclusion, look at the ghettos of gaza controlled by israel. everything goes through check pointsgranted that's not for global warming carbon- but keep in mind, global warming is just the EXCUSE for the end goal, which is putting you in a concentration camp, same as always
