I wonder how long it will take before AI generated content will overtake human created content 🤔A large portion of the total web traffic is used by bots already, the dozen AI companies don't help with this and only drive it upPersonally I don't want to read or look at AI generated garbage that only pollutes the web even further

@stux I'd say we're doing exactly what happened in with radioactive material BEFORE we figured out how dangerous it is.Hell, they put plutonium in kids' toys!

@stux @dynode actually, I knew there was a plutonium toy. It wasn't the Gilbert kit, it was the Lone Ranger Decoder Ring: https://gizmodo.com.au/2016/01/the-secret-origins-of-an-infamous-plutonium-filled-kids-toy/I watched the QI episode it was mentioned on!

@stux It will peter out in a few years as it won't be able to learn any new tricks. Certain programming languages it prefers will stagnate due to overfitting, new features won't be able to made part of the training set. Look, when people like Ilya are bullshitting, you know they got nothing. Certainly actual AI is decades off. imo.

@stux as it’s going to vaporize 2500 years of information and culture in a blinding process that will only leave shadows of them behind in the landscape?

@stux What are the chances that things will go at least partially back to BBSes again, just to filter out the AI trash?

@stux this is why I love libraries. Actual books with footnotes that lead to more books.

@stux I think you would get a lot out of reading this recent commentary on the topic — the Kessler Syndroming of the Internet!https://www.unchartedblue.com/internet-kessler-syndrome-are-we-witnessing-the-beginning-of-the-end-of-the-open-internet/

@stux AI is not a "nuclear bomb". and there is nothing inherently bomblike about nuclear physics either. it's just that if you give it to the worst fucking people, they will find a way to use it for mass murder.and lost of people have become increasingly fond of those worst kind of people (government and military).

@stux There already is not enough human-created content for AIs to feed on, so they're being fed their own by-products. Like mad cow disease, this is resulting in holes in their minds and dementia.
