       Good reference here to F.W. Murnau's silent horror film classic Nosferatu (1922), especially considering that film's reference to the vampire plague arriving in Bremen, spread by Count Orlok and the rats that follow, the pestilence only destroyed in the end...by sunlight. And here's the 1979 remake, also highly-recommended:
