#Ubuntu running lighter on my old #Thinkpad #T410 than #ZorinOS was NOT on my 2024 bingo card

@realcaseyrollins now try debian. You don't need any of that shit from canonical ;)

@ThatCrazyDude I don't hate #Canonical like some do but I'm definitely looking for something less normie than #Ubuntu lol

@realcaseyrollins well, I don't particularly hate them either. It's just that they pack Ubuntu with like a ton and a half of shit that I have no use for. Personally, I prefer to just install packages I want

@realcaseyrollins I'm running ZORIn on a Dell XPS15 9570 and the Audio is terrible.Furthermore, the Color accent in Dark Mode really sucks. I just want the objects within the menus to change, not the entire background. Their idea of an accent blurred over everything makes it look like there is a graphics driver issue. It really sucks

@ThatCrazyDude ooh, well if #Ubuntu has bloatware then I'd definitely much rather run something like #Debian. I don't run many apps, but the ones I do rarely come bundled with any #Linux distro I use.

@Scorpious I used to use the Lite version a lil bit when I was younger, it was my favorite distro. Now it's discontinued, and I'm not seeing tons of benefit to using #ZorinOS over other #Debian based distros, especially as other distros like #Ubuntu and #PopOS have started catching up to #ZorinOS when it comes to an attractive #GUI IMHO

@realcaseyrollins Ubuntu is kinda offensive to me mostly because it's, like, you won't have root account so you won't poke your eye out, or something something. Sure you can enable it and all, but what's the deal there? 😂

@realcaseyrollins @ThatCrazyDude um, why? Ubuntu is in no way "normie", it's *functional.* How you use it determines whether you're "normie" or not :PYou don't have to use a distro that wants to brick your system every week in order to be cool. Just do cool stuff with a system that works and keeps working.

@arraybolt3 @ThatCrazyDude teehee you're right lol. #Ubuntu is "popular" (about as popular as any #Linux distro could be lol). It's not necessarily about being "cool" (at least not primarily 😜), but it can be easy to just pick the most popular distro while overlooking less popular ones that might be better fits for you.And I'm definitely planning on staying away from stuff that bricks my system lol

@ThatCrazyDude @realcaseyrollins *Whispers* He's right you know. You didn't need no stinking PPAs anyway. You got: AptApp ImagesFlatpacksDocker (depends) NixpkgsCompile it!Snaps (ugh... yeah...)KVMOh the stability! And you didn't have to have that security hole known as Sudo setup by default. 🤣 I run it in production, it's fantastic.

@Fox @ThatCrazyDude > You got: > Apt> App Images> Flatpacks> Docker (depends) > Nixpkgs> Compile it!> Snaps (ugh... yeah...)> KVMWhich is even more than what I need for this particular computer's use. I really just need apt, maybe flatpacks, and either a good GUI #Debian package opener or dpkg.> And you didn't have to have that security hole known as Sudo setup by default. 🤣 Yeahhhhhh I should get rid of that when I reimage this laptop.

@realcaseyrollins @Fox as much as it pains me to say this, sudo comes as default even with debian these days.... Oh well 😂

@realcaseyrollins I have been running Ubuntu since Vista came out. I'm very happy with it.
