       @aral This has been a problem since the end of WWII with the US seeing itself as the inheritor of the role played by the British. In recent memory it has accelerated since the Reagan era with the US government ignoring trade rulings and trade law. And then there was Nigaragua. It isn't just a MIC issue either. Any corporate interest in the US (and in Canada as well) pushes the US government to allow it to avoid responsibility for their overseas malfeasance.
