I realized I have no idea who "holds" the RSS or Atom specs. And what the process is for "updating" them. There is no REP (RSS Enhancement Procedure) and maybe there should be? But also is this the best way to add stuff to a standard? I fear not... What living standards/specs/protocols do we have that are most dear to us? And how do they grow or shift or adapt?

This thought brought to you by the discussion arising from presentations given last night by @twilliability and @by_caballero at the fediverse meetup we had...

Hmm so I guess RSS really is sorta dead lolthe RSS spec was last updated over 15 years ago on March 30, 2009! https://www.rssboard.org/rss-change-notes(UPDATE: https://cyber.harvard.edu/rss/rss.html is the home of the "frozen" 2.0 spec written by @davew)

Hi @liaizon, no it's not dead by any means. Only look at the podcast ecosystem. It's just no space for innovation of the standard itself. However it can be reliably used. Maybe because.

If something is "frozen" it is dead in the sense that it shows no signs of "movement" but that doesn't mean it can't be dethawed. RSS is frozen. So maybe it becomes the icecubes in a glass full of "modules"?
