       @TheConversationUS The runner-up curse in BattleBots (whoever got 2nd place tends to do much, much worse next year) has been attributed to this psychological phenomenon - they're so highly motivated to change anything that could've made the difference they end up changing too much and ruining what made them so successful the previous year.
