Over the weekend I uploaded images to #Patreon about the history and present state of Megalosaurus in #paleoart, including new restorations of my own. Check them out here: https://www.patreon.com/markwitton (and, I'm doing so, support the production of an upcoming paper on this topic) #sciart #dinosaurs

@markwitton Poor Megalosaurus, it's always wet or pouring rain. I hope it gets a sunny day some time

@kevinteljeur I see no reason why Megalosaurus should get a nicer summer than we're currently experiencing.

@markwitton Fair (but Tyrannosaurus, always roaring in rage, frequently gets nice days out! The tyrant gets what they want.).

@kevinteljeur There was that one day where T. rex experienced some pretty bad stuff falling from the sky... (Would love to have seen the TV weather map symbol for this. "Cloudy, with a chance of apocalypse".)

@markwitton Haha! That's fair, you'd want a few nice days in compensation.- So, there's going to be some hard feelings from the rest of the gang, ok? You're getting beautiful weather. Cretaceous is full of sunny days, herds of chonky beasts in the open. Mostly.- Mostly? Sounds like there's a catch to this set-up. Like bad rain? Megalosaurus bad rain?- [awkward cough] Something like that, yeah

@WilliamBabey Long story short: we have no nasal bones from any megalosaurid, but crests are pretty common in early averostran theropods. It's very possible - maybe even predicted - that megalosaurines had some sort of crest. (This isn't my observation, BTW, it comes from Andrea Cau).

@markwitton Cau! (proceeds to smoke a cigarette pensively): haven't heard that name in years. Joking aside, thank you sincerely for your reply, that opens the door to many explorations on Megalosaurid reconstructions!
