A quote on the #fediverse from @LaurensHof which is important to me:"- The wider meaning of the term fediverse (as in, it includes Bluesky and Nostr) is something I've mainly noticed in the US based tech sector- Over at the European side of the people that I know in the fediverse community, this is not happening at all, and there is in general barely any attention being paid to Bluesky, Nostr and Farcaster."1/2

2/2@LaurensHof This means to me that the US or US companies will lead in the #fediverse as we Europeans concentrate on the meaning of fediverse instead of making it accessible as much to everybody. I know there is a lot of cliché in my thinking and I am a bit too simplistic. Still I do not see a reason why the past should not repeat.

@askans @LaurensHof the issue, is when these big corporations see a third party bridge on their network, they automatically think "well, I don't have to do anything now, we're just automatically part of the Fediverse with no extra work needed! This person did it all for free!"That's not a good look for Fedi. Companies getting included without any work from them, adds very little value if they don't continue to evolve and make the integrations work pleasantly.

@BeAware @LaurensHof I cannot judge the effort Meta has to federate Threads. I only see that in general it takes organizations a "lot of time" from announcements of federation to effective launch. (Ghost, Tumblr)Value: there of course different ways to measure it. Mine is currently:- number of users- lever for other organization to start federation as wellDo I see a risk of pseudo-decentralization? Yes, but my understanding of the fundamentals is too limited to come to a sound judgement.

@askans> The wider meaning of the term fediverse (as in, it includes Bluesky and Nostr) is something I've mainly noticed in the US based tech sectorIs @LaurensHof saying that USAmericans have started using "fediverse" in place of "Web3"? Because the term fediverse was coined not to describe all federated software (eg email), or even all federated social web software (eg Matrix), but to describe the OStatus network, and by extension the ActivityPub network. Not sure diluting its meaning helps.
