It's been three years since I was able to get into the bed. I've been sleeping on the couch since, when I broke my leg our loft (which is very high up) became too hard to get up to for me. BUT. Ordered this functional step chest and soon there will be stairs and I'll get to go to bed again. I'm so excited. This took forever since I was stubborn about not "ruining" our book room with ugly stairs, but this will do.

The bad part of all this is I need to clean the room to get it ready for the stairs. But I'm going to take inspiration from my ants and just keep making little piles and organizing my world.

@futurebird That's lovely! I love those chests. My first thoughts would be about making sure it won't wobble, can bear the weight, and is slip resistant where your feet will be on the lacquer surface.(But you know this.)

@mfennvt It's not custom. It's a kind of chest called a tansu it was in California, so the shipping was a bit expensive. They are more common in Japan I think.

@futurebird This. Is. Gorgeous. I've never wanted a lofted bed, but if it was a good excuse to buy a step chest this pretty, I'd make it happen.

My wife is a teacher, and she has little piles of things everywhere all the time. I think it might be a common teacher behavior. If only I was a billionaire, I'd buy us a big warehouse where we both could live. 🙂
