imo hard to read a lot of problems of current era as anything but “social media is driving ~everyone crazy” but i’m also hopefully optimistic that in a decade or two people will have adapted by forming “memetic antibodies” to social media’s worst ills

people often point at fears over every new technology — e.g. writing, the printing press, TV, the internet — as evidence that fears of the current new tech are overblown and they’re partially wrong — every one of those things genuinely has real dangers — but also partially correct. society did eventually adapt and integrate those things.

one of the starkest examples of this is alcohol i think. alcohol *destroyed* entire societies but we have sufficient memetic antibodies against it that keeps the deathtoll at an acceptable level.

@aiju I think it will probably maximally come up to "idea 1, 2, 3 are a wrong/bad idea", probably most will not know why. The reputation of some sources will suffer a little bit, but nothing with a mid-term learning effect.
