“To give America the greatest shot possible of deterring the Trump threat in November, the president has to come forward and declare that he will not be running for re-election and is releasing all of his delegates for the Democratic National Convention.” -Thomas Friedman in The NY Times https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/28/opinion/joe-biden-tom-friedman.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare&sgrp=c-cb

@w7voa "Thomas Friedman"IDK if I trust him?I would be thrilled if this happened. Delighted. I've been saying this for years. But is it wise or possible at this stage in the game? It seems the usual chorus of Democratic "centrist" underminers saying it loudest and first.Which makes me not trust it as good advice. I simply would like this country to survive and don't really care who or what runs as long as they stop Trump.

@futurebird @w7voa Personally, I didn't think he was going to run again a few years ago, and I don't think anyone has been sitting here saying "no I will only vote for Biden." But the problem is, who else could possibly show up at this point? The primaries are over at this point. The time for someone to put in and say "I want to replace him as the nominee" was over a year ago when the primary season started. And when we do polls of this? Biden is still the strongest of any candidate that gets thrown out.Rather than sitting here talking about a candidate who we have no reason to believe is going to step out of the election cycle, we should be talking about what the hell is going on with this supposed half of American voters that is either not understanding that Trump is going to dissolve the democracy and take revenge upon the country, or not understanding why that would be a bad outcome in this election.

@Raccoon @w7voa I disappointed he didn't lay the ground work to pass the mantle with elegance and order. But, this also isn't really about him.

@futurebird @w7voaYeah at the end of the day, I'm getting a bit tired of the constant talk of the party that, if most of us had our way, would be dismantled by a multi-party system. Like, we don't have control over what they do, this is a hostage situation. We are voting for Biden because that is the candidate they have put forward. But Biden is a stable and competent person, who surrounds himself with other stable and competent people, and most importantly, is not interested in dissolving the Democracy or doing Mass violence against the citizens.

@futurebird @w7voa Obviously you can't trust Friedman. Can you indicate a point in the past when he came through for you and said the right words?

@futurebird @w7voa I don't understand where the people saying shit like this come from. Like seriously how do they think this could possibly work. Like they live in a reality where the physical and social constants are tweaked slightly differently and everyone who's showing up to the polls in November is somehow as politicspilled as they are

@futurebird @w7voa I think the time to have someone else run on the Democrat ticket was 2 years ago. With all of Biden’s weaknesses I am concerned that at this date replacing him would be a disaster.

@Raccoon @futurebird @w7voa Non-sequitur? Given the primary loss of anywhere between 7-20% of votes because of Biden's belligerent arming and bankrolling of genocide, I think it is horrifically pertinent. And yet another reason he should step down (tho I have little doubt any replacement will be nearly as horrifying).

@LightFIAR @Raccoon @w7voa I don't know if it's that much. It would be more elegant and ... righteous or something if that was what was harming him. Less upsetting than the truth. Even though it still sucks since not voting for him won't do a damn thing to help those people just make it all worse. And most people know this. But I understand the anger. Can't really say much in response.

@futurebird @LightFIAR @w7voa it should also be stated aloud that the people who do not understand policy, or even how the system works, and are constantly complaining about having no one to vote for, are generally difficult to court regardless of the circumstances, because one can always find some imagined policy that they can have issues with, and in general, these are the people who keep saying they won't vote for "the lesser of two evils" and thus don't vote at all. It's a serious problem that non-conservatives have, where the conservatives realized a long time ago that, to quote Ronald Reagan, "someone who agrees with you 80% of the time is not a 20% enemy, but your friend." but we have people who aren't in the conservative non-idea bubble going after the Leaders with actual principles, like Biden, because of responses to political realities. How does one court votes from people who are too angry to even bother understanding what they are talking about?

@futurebird @Raccoon @w7voa I appreciate that. I think it IS what's destroying his candidacy as just that amount of people registering their anger on a race still 50-50 will lose it. But clearly, it goes beyond his mishandling of Bibi the Butcher and Zionazi Likud...he needs to resign. He's not competent.
