It's probably wild that, given all my dysphoria and species weirdness and stuff, VRChat (and VR in general) has never really appealed to me at all.

@batbeeps@chitter.xyzThe problem that has kept me away from VR is that you can never truly immerse yourself 100%.In movies and anime, VR is this amazing technology that lets people experience and interact with vast virtual realities as if they were just as real as our reality. They have a body they can control however they want, they walk around, and so on.But the reality is that you constantly have to stay aware of your surroundings if you don't want to knock things over. You can't walk with your legs, unless you use a special cage and that doesn't feel anything like normal walking. You can't even use your full body, but only "key" parts via controllers, and the rest is done with clever automation. You may use an avatar that isn't even humanoid, but your proprioception and other senses will constantly remind you that it isn't your actual body. And that pretty much defeats the purpose for me.
