Do you have any albums that take you to an exact time and place?I have a bunch. For me, music is tied very strongly to memory of place. I tend to remember exactly where I was or what I was doing whenever I hear a new song. For me, I have a deeply vivid memory of listening to Sufjan Stevens' album "The Avalanche" on my iPod, as I laid in the sun in my parents' back yard, one month before I moved to Pittsburgh and left my old life behind, basically for good.

The sun was scalding hot, and all I had was a towel to stay cool. I don't remember why I was outside during it, but many of the songs "feel" like a hot summer's day to me.

The song, "The Avalanche" bleeds of leaving home, never to return.
