Google One has officially retired its VPN.For a privacy-respecting #VPN that isn't tied to an ad company, consider trying Proton VPN for free.https://www.androidpolice.com/google-one-killing-vpn-service-date/

@protonprivacy I've been using Proton VPN, Mail, Calendar, and just recently Pass. I've been happy with all your services and don't think I've had any problems. Thanks for being great.

@Lorhin @blenderfoxThey have probably forgotten of its existence themselves — I mean, who would use a VPN by Google? đŸ˜±Looks like an April Fool's Day joke that went too far
But now someone started reviewing the operating expenses 😂@protonprivacy

@protonprivacy Unfortunately, Proton VPN does not connect in Russia. None of the Proton VPN protocols were working the last time I checked and most likely nothing was restored.

@protonprivacy As noted by https://KilledByGoogle.com, this makes 59 apps, 211 services, and 23 hardware products dead by #Google’s rainbow-colored hands. (And counting: next on the chopping block is the #Jamboard app and device)If they can’t slap #advertising on it or direct you somewhere else that can, it won’t last.

@lambalicious @Chapz Hi there, the name/address of the terrorism suspect was actually given to police by Apple, not Proton. The terror suspect added their real-life Apple email as an optional recovery address in Proton Mail. Proton can't decrypt data, but in terror cases Swiss courts can obtain recovery email.Setting a recovery email is optional, and you can read about other recovery methods here: https://proton.me/support/set-account-recovery-methods

@protonprivacy Ehh, I am, but I find that opening Instagram links without having an account doesn't work via your free servers, on PC or mobile, tested with several browsers. It's always some "can't load page" with what looks like a login-page redirect URL in the address bar instead of the address I was going for.

@protonprivacy ProtonVPN works great, but it is still a problem for many banking sites who end up blocking traffic. I wish there was an easy way to filter out VPN servers who are blocked.

@protonprivacy well, thanks, 5.3.93.0 works today on Android. But previously, from October (2023) till February (2024) I couldn't connect to the VPN on Windows or Linux (latest versions of app).Unfortunately, now I can’t test ProtonVPN on Windows/Linux because my computer won’t turn on. But thank you for working ♄

@arnaudsj Unfortunately, some websites block known VPN IP addresses.Contact us at https://protonvpn.com/support-form with more details about the websites in question, as well as the servers you're connected to when trying to access them so we can investigate.

@shoreguy Although we don't yet officially support IPv6, we're working towards providing support in the upcoming period, and we're already testing IPv6 on some of our paid servers. You can find more details at https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonVPN/comments/18oc0yx/were_testing_ipv6_on_our_paid_servers_and_we_need.

@alreadyout At Proton, we believe that privacy and internet freedom are the right of everyone, not just those who can afford it, which is why we will always provide a free version of Proton VPN. For people wanting the more premium features, however, we are looking at trying to make things more affordable with localized pricing. On another note, although you can't select a specific server as a free user, you can change the server that was initially assigned to you.

@protonprivacy All Instagram links.Vivaldi & Firefox, desktop and Android.Only disconnecting fixes it.But it seems today it's not doing the "can't load page" anymore, their redirect to the login page actually works. So I guess it's probably Instagram denying access to their content if they can't get enough tracking information to figure out who I am, maybe they want to see that I'm someone who already has a Meta account (Facebook) so they're not losing a potential subscriber by allowing me to also see Instagram content.I notice without the VPN they can still tell who I am and will let me see the Instagram content even if I open the Instagram link in a separate private window of Firefox, with partial Javascript blocking enabled through JShelter. So I'd say it looks fine wrt. ProtonVPN functionality in the end.

@protonprivacy I tried using each of the protocols. Version 3.2.11 does not allow connection (desktop PC, Windows 11). The image in the screenshot is the maximum I could wait for. I assume the same thing will happen on Linux, but haven't tried it yet
