"One network [CNN] is in charge of every aspect of the Biden-Trump debate, a major shift from previous years."Bad news, then, that CNN strategy is heavily influenced by a right-wing media billionaire, John C Malone.Malone was at Liberty Media, CBN, and is a big Trump donor.

Malone is not the owner of CNN. He has about a 1% stake in the parent company. But he did a lot to engineer the WBD merger, and with a board seat and his background as a media exec, he drives a lot of strategy at CNN.

For example it's been reported that Malone has "deep and longstanding ties" with David Zaslav, the CEO of WBD. https://www.vox.com/2022/8/26/23322761/cnn-john-malone-david-zaslav-chris-licht-brian-stelter-fox-peter-kafka-column

Zaslav and his handpicked CEO Chris Licht were reportedly involved in pushing out John Harwood and canceling Brian Stelter's show. And Kaitlan Collins, who they hired, came from a background at the Anschutz DC Examiner and Koch-funded Daily Caller.https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/tv/2022/09/02/john-harwood-exits-cnn-amid-changes-news-channel/7978125001/

In sum: CNN has been pushed to the right by its board members and executives. And so it's really bad that CNN gets to control this extremely consequential debate./endhere's the NYT piece:https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/24/business/media/cnn-presidential-debate.html

@protecttruth And yet the terms and conditions of this debate seem better than any previous ones I can remember: no audience, no interruptions
