wtf - plugging in a Sonos Roam into a Lenovo Docking station, which in turn is connected to a Unifi Dream Router via ethernet - actually kills the whole network. What an interesting bug/feature

@galaxydinodragon We do like music in multiple rooms, and ikea symfonisk (basically sonos) was a great and cheaper way to get into it.And with "Music Assistant" in Home Assistant, it works actually great (but dont plug them into to your lenovo docking station ;) )

But that does not explain why the router freezes, crashes and stops to route every third day...

@selea hehehe, there's a reason I ditched unifi a long time ago. One too many times having to nuke my access point drove me nuts.I'm actually starting to move all my stuff to TP-Link's Omada, which works surprisingly well

@selea yeh, I run the controller on my Windows machine, or you can run a dedicated box like the OC series (I'm considering getting the OC-200 as it's only about AU$150)

@selea I wish I knew this two weeks ago. I just invested in a full Unifi setup. Dream Machine Pro, two U6 pro and a U6+.So far I'm really happy with it though, but your comment makes me nervous.I guess time will tell.

@selea @sortius you don't actually need the controller unless you want a couple features like fast roaming

@selea I replaced my Asus gamer-grade wifi mesh, and are very happy with things like roaming (which the Asus sucked at).The SDN features is what brought me on as it allows me to have an isolated VLAN for each kid, so when they install junk, the rest of us are safe.Isolating all the IoT stuff is also an interesting proposition, to minimize the attack surface.4d 17h uptime so far, fingers crossed.

@selea it’s pretty, but if you want something that is powerful and reliable, it’s a bad choice

@selea I had to enable "unifis legacy UI" to disable meshing else it just re-enabled itself.. Even people who install it daily professionally advise to use the old UI.. That's how you know the product is fubar'd

@gigantos I got a custom firmware from Unifi support, and I have installed it. Time will tell how it works
