@aral when you say patches welcome. Is there a protocol for this for Wayland?I just tried Orca on GNOME Wayland. It was pretty terrible. The Orca documentation kept saying to use the Orca modifier key but did not say what the default was in the getting started page.

@sageofredondo They’re working on fixing it for the next release. But it’s been in the major Linux distributions for quite a while now. (Basically, the modifier key/ keyboard control doesn’t work. So the screen reader doesn’t work.)

@aral I agree on the fundamental issue but then again, resources being what they are, open source software also needs contributions from the community. I care about disabled people, and I would warn blind people not to upgrade until the screen reader is fixed. They'll never have full and equal access to the world as I do, since they can't see, so I'll try to fix the screen reader as soon as I can, to help them out. I think there's a few large players that see linux as a threat to their market share in the consumer markets. While only about 4% of consumers use linux, that's up 1% in about a year and my bet is that most of those users are under 30. If they lose the demographic, they lose the future of their OS businesses, and the information / data pipeline it produces. So I wouldn't be surprised if corporate glowniggers are sticking their hands in linux development and the propaganda behind it, and particularly in the consumer end of it (let's not start a redhat system d thread). I mean... why wouldn't they? And licensing is just one aspect. Plus I've heard no compelling argument for wayland tbh, and x11 works and is well documented.

I said this in another thread, but they don't care if a negligible percentage of traffic gets through via a VPN or something. 90% of Internet users can't use something that isn't on an app available through mainstream channels, 90% of the remaining 10% only have rudimentary browser competency for navigating the mainstream surface web.
