Freedom isn’t freedom if it’s only for abled people. Then again, there’s a reason you don’t see the word “freedom” in “open source.”And there’s a reason “share alike” is just one of the principles of Small Technology, alongside a non-colonial approach, inclusivity, and others. @aral Even if we take “Free as free speech (…)” and apply the current discourse we arrive at a not very fun interpretation.(As a side-🎵 I experiment with accessibility software to help with my AuADHD. Mostly it doesn't work for me. Not the right workflow, simple as that. But I'm still grateful that someone put the work in.)

@aral big tech is assumed to be used & usable by everyone, including disabled people, which often locks/blocks us out over it's financial costs, hardware , software & reliable high speed internet & it's thusly becoming a larger & larger set of "hidden costs" of medical care. Open source often has that cost of hardware & reliable high speed internet problem, plus they, like big tech, in general expect that all people can easily use the hardware fully.I hate it but the choice is generally between "do I want to deal with big tech who's actively trying to harm me as a user for a bigger profit margin/more profits, or FOSS which continually likewise does harm but it's generally less, never really born of malice but rather mostly over exhaustion & sometimes ego as they race to do things "bigger/better" & forget what they view as the "detail for later" of #accessibility? Small tech is the 3rd option but it is indeed the smallest & even as I'm looking hard - until I find more I can use, it's going to be what I use the least. Mainly on the accessibility front, I need better quality hardware & for that hardware to work with open source or small tech software, as I want freedom from big tech & yet not to end my computer use.
