@PraxisOfEvil I would say the right-wing analog to this is "The Self-Made Man." To ascribe to capitalist meritocracy you have to believe that people of ability and talent will rise to the top even from humble beginnings, while those who fall to the wayside either didn't work hard enough or just weren't exceptional enough to make it. This helps justify to older generations leaving their children nothing or doing little to help them, since they're just expected to be able to succeed and achieve greatness solely through their own abilities.

@PraxisOfEvil To me, it's more of a matter of blood, IE a Poor-White area is probably poor for different reasons then a nog's ghetto.

I think the point is that even mediocre people will do alright under a truly vibrant economy, and that "poverty," and I think he means real poverty and not the working class guy who's getting by, though maybe not rich, is really the result of something else than a mere lack of money. Rather, the lack of money is the effect of something else... a defective people, and that's a problem you can fix my throwing money at it.

@Witch_Hunter_Siegfired You're indeed pointing out the big missing part from what @PraxisOfEvil posted, genetics.Since I'm in the US, I'll point out basic problems most of our African-American populations have; heh two days before Juneteenth.OK, their importation and thriving in the US had one important genetic factor, much greater resistance to diseases like malaria and yellow fever. But today when we for example know to keep mosquitoes suppressed, their genetics are very maladaptive. Their behavior is fantastically more violent than any group of Caucasians let alone (East) Asians, and while they're a lot smarter than negroes in sub-Saharan African they average one full white male SD below the general average, are 85 with a narrower than white male SD of 12 (at 15 we have more outliers in both directions). See the many memes which use this, like on conditional hypotheticals which perhaps most of them can't understand, and when I recently ran the numbers on how many have 110 IQs and greater. Both of these have major consequences which the (((blank slate))) fraud insists we ignor. For the posting, the violence is touched upon, but "life skills" is not even wrong given that "skill" implies something that can be learned by too many people who don't have the IQ to do that.(Hispanics, there's great debate in human biodiversity (HDB) on violence, but no question for IQ they're in between African-Americans and whites. Culturally a mixed bag but much better than current US negro culture.)

@Humpleupagus @givenup @MeBigbrain @PraxisOfEvil a lot of it is that the left has largely abandoned the idea of working class poverty because blue collar workers constantly reject Marxist policies and the idea of losing what they have worked so hard for. So instead they abandoned the working class and have focused on an antisocial underclass and conflated their destitution with poverty. I mean this is the entire reason why critical theory began, because Marx’s assumptions about workers revolting turned out to be wrong every time. And the other reason being that WASPs couldn’t relate to the underclass and blamed themselves for it.

@PraxisOfEvil How to become poor in the USA:Get sick until you point out at work.Get sick enough to be hospitalized once or twice.Get injured.Have major car problems (timing chain getting loose).Have a bad insurance company refuse to cover some drunk slamming into your car at night. It's very easy to lose a good job, to have your savings wiped out, or just be crippled. Enough expensive events will have you scraping the bottom of the barrel for a long while.

@Spingebill No but I cringed that the part of the tweet, although I do think the rest of his point stands. The free market can't fix these things and in many cases it just makes them worse.

@BrokenSword @PraxisOfEvil Truth. Got laid off at the start of the year and getting even so much as a phone screen has been nigh impossible. Literally the only company I've gotten into the interview process with is a startup that came to me.

@ent @PraxisOfEvil I was stuck in a call center for ten years with an electronic engineering degree, and after quitting so I wouldn't eat my shotgun, it took another two years to get my current job. It's horrible, as companies are milking states for "we're hiring" bonuses, without actually hiring anybody.

@BrokenSwordExactly. The market right now is absolutely horrid. It's more than a little frustrating how much I've been passed over so far, considering I had zero experience specific to the part of medtech I was just working in but still got hired and was there 5 years. Good engineers don't have issues learning. 😑Doesn't help that I'm good at making friends, but not business connections @PraxisOfEvil
