A person who would also be 'swaldman' but with a different first name than me seems accidentally to have signed up an email address that's mine to Trump mailing lists.I've found it fascinating. The public conversation from Trump is all resentment and grievance, but the inside pitch to supporters is "I love you, I chose you, I need you" It's about making the supporter feel special, essential, part of the family.I've redacted the S-beginning first name that isn't mine.

@interfluidity Darned interesting. Did Hitler use such an approach/language (before taking power), I wonder? Reading Finer's (History of Government) section on the Jewish state(s) through Solomon right now, so this has me thinking about "you/we are the chosen people" that so deeply informed that government system (kings), in practice.

@SteveRoth (i think that there was a "the fuhrer loves you" vibe among "good germans", but i don't recall where i have gotten that impression and certainly stand ready to be corrected.)

@interfluidity That feels so strange. These emails are written as if they were personal, but isn't it obvious they can't be?Like, "I won't choose a VP until I hear from you" makes sense if "you" means "the voters" or something. But "First Name, you've got guts"... Can anyone seriously think it's Donald Trump himself writing this to you? I felt like the whole appeal of this guy was his authenticity, and this feels so fake.I wonder, are these emails HTML-formatted with American flags and such?

@sqrtminusone here's a screenshot, the beginning of the first e-mail in my original post. ("First Name" is redacted in green, 'cuz there's a lot of red built in.)

@interfluidity Fascinating indeed. This one looks like a perfectly normal spam email. How does it even work...?

@interfluidity don’t know if it’s convergent evolution or deliberate, but this is cult maintenance 101, right?
