Meta did this? I’m shocked!(Meta is John Mastodon’s new bestie. https://www.platformer.news/mastodon-interview-eugen-rochko-meta-bluesky-threads-federation/) https://hachyderm.io/@det/112610136883080131

@aral Also in the article:> Mastodon started in 2016 [...] The idea of decentralization was still novel [...]The idea of decentralization (in the "social web") was there from 2008 even if it didn’t take off largely with many instances at the start... It’s not to lower the success the project has and the take off it offered us, which is also largely because of community momentum at a beneficial timing, but it is sad to see history rewritten and what now arises from the project fame :/

@aral Thanks for posting this. Just when it gets interesting about threads, it is subscribers only. Would you quote essentials?

@aral I can't read this part but hoping Bluesky to abandon ATprotocol is like hoping Mastodon abandoning disk storage. It's like, how Bluesky works internally, you can't shut that down.

@aral @det what the actual fuck? does threads have ads? If not, is it going to have them? I assume so. Is the only thing that makes that make any sense is guaranteed I’ll be able to force people to see ads. Well, that in collecting all their sweet juicy data to serve the ads everywhere else.
