How do we know the arc of history isn't going in an ellipse, orbiting justice, getting closer then farther, never quite impacting?

@ZachWeinersmith because whenever it gets closer to justice, the anti justice crowd hits the thrusters

@ZachWeinersmith "The arc of history is Lyapunov-stable about Justice" doesn't have so great a ring to it.

@ZachWeinersmith That's how orbits work, you never feel the pull."History's coming to get us, the future is coming as well. Apparently so is the present, but then again how could you tell?"(Bill Bailey, I think?)

@ZachWeinersmith The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards an asymptote running to infinity

@ZachWeinersmith The universe is full of entropy Clausius summarized the concept of entropy in simple terms: “The energy of the universe is constant. The entropy of the universe tends to a maximum.” The increase of disorder or entropy is what distinguishes the past from the future, giving a direction to time.

@ZachWeinersmith I chose to believe we're getting closer to the real thing with ever new approach, meaning we'll eventually reach it. I was naive enough when I was young to think we're in the final lap and I might actually get to see it. With the current backlash, that seems unlikely. But I still believe It's going to happen. Assuming we don't blow ourselves to bits in the intermission time.

@ZachWeinersmith Perhaps we have already permeated the membrane of justice, so we're now injustice.

@ZachWeinersmith "We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice." -MLK... It doesn't say anything about slamming into justice. I feel like he would have mentioned that if it was the plan.

@ZachWeinersmith Ellipse or more a lazy spiral, with an event horizon. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Why some of my best friends are singularities.

@ZachWeinersmithThe serious answer is that larger amounts of humans need more and more and more and more complex arrangements of humans doing things.Of course, you can coerce them, but it's easier if everyone pulls together. And so larger societies are less stable if less fair.
