Yesterday I was in Cornwall and I trekked a section of the South West Coast Path. Park Head to Treyarnon and back. 8 miles. For this #walk thread I'm going to do something a bit different, and muse on all the things I love about a solo #hike Let's go!#walking #hiking #SouthWestCoastPath

I LOVE the coast path! I feel super fortunate to live close to it and #walk sections whenever I can. One of the best bits of a coast path walk is the first glimpse of the sea. Nowt like it. Even when you live close. One of the harder things is finding a section you can make a circular out of. #hike #hiking #walking #SouthWestCoastPath

The cliff tops along this stretch are filled with flowers! The paths are a carpet of wild thyme, vetches, trefoils, buttercups, self heal and thrifts. Its just beautiful. I love spending time noticing the myriad of plants growing togther in little ecosystems. It's definitely one of the reasons I seem so slow to get anywhere.#walking #walk #hike #hiking #SouthWestCoastPath #bloomS crolling

The path doesn't strictly go to Park Head, but a few desire paths do. And if there is one thing I love, it's going off track to see something I fancy a nosey at. The cliffs here are a little bit perilous. Subsistence happening all along this stretch. The curve of Park Head is so thin in places it makes my tummy wobble a little so I don't go right to the end.#walking #walk #hike #hiking #SouthWestCoastPath

Spotted this little pink flower on the way back towards the path. But I can't ID it. Anyone know what it is?I love noticing things I've never come across before and learning the names for them!#walking #walk #hike #hiking #SouthWestCoastPath #bloomScrolling

The path weaves down to Porth Mear bay, edged with foxgloves, roses, honeysuckle and red campions. Coming off the cliff towards a bay feels like such a treat! I love discovering little gifts like this on a #walk #walking #hike #hiking #SouthWestCoastPath #bloomScrolling

I sit on the shore for a moment and wonder on all the things hidden from me. Who is swimming out of sight below the waves? What is hiding in the caves beyond the breakwater? What nests on the far side of the rocks? But also:Who sat here before me and wondered about what lay beyond the horizon? Who gazed at the view and thought about who might sit here next?I love pondering on everything concealed to us. A view is never just what you can see.#walking #walk #hike #hiking #SouthWestCoastPath

I have this thing about vastness. That we are drawn to places like the oceans, mountains, moors, because there is something grounding in feeling awe. In sensing your smallness. Seeing yourself as a part of the immense. I truly believe that everyone should stand on hillside, look out and know that we are part of something bigger than ourselves. Anyway, next time you look out at a view try and notice that awe in yourself and what it means to you#hike #hiking #walking #walk #SouthWestCoastPath

Just before I reach Porthcothan I come across a stunning little sandy bay. You have to scramble down the stream to get on to the sand.I am completely alone. If there is one thing I learnt about myself in my 30s it is that I thrive on isolation. I actively seek it out, and it's one of the reasons I love a solo #hike I spend a good while stood on the beach staring out at the waves soaking up the silence. #walking #walk #hiking #SouthWestCoastPath

I teat myself to a yogurt flapjack at Porthcothan shop. Love a pit stop treat. I decide I've made good time and can continue further north. As I climb above the opposite side of the bay i can spot the isolated beach i stood on. I really enjoy looking back on where I've been and seeing it from a new vantage point. Think this probably ties into those feelings on perspective.Onwards.#walking #walk #hike #hiking #SouthWestCoastPath

I love the zigzag dry stone walls on this part of the coast path. I generally very much enjoy noticing respectful ways we've knitted into nature or alongside her.#walking #walk #hike #hiking #SouthWestCoastPath

Few random other things I enjoyed on this walk:Watching the waves make giant sprays against the cliffs. Giving a polite "How do" to the brazen stone chats and bullfinches.Laughing at myself for chatting to birds.Looking into the swell of a wave as it rises just before it breaks. Like a window on the sea.Peeking down at coves you can't reach on foot and wondering who last managed to get to them.#walking #walk #hike #hiking #SouthWestCoastPath

As I reach Treyarnon the sky turns broody. I decide to circle back via footpaths and lanes as retracing would mean walking headlong into the wind and rain on open cliffs. I like how the more time you spend outside the better you can get at predicting the weather from the change in the sky, the light, the wind, the smell of the air. I'm 90% sure it's going to Chuck it down before i get back.I vear off down a valley footpath away from the sea.#walking #walk #hike #hiking

As I'm off the coast path the paths round here are hardly walked. It's a different sort of isolation. It's tinged with adventure and sense discovery. The rain starts and I'm glad of the lanes, because even in their shelter I am quickly drenched. I love the rain on a walk though, it makes the foliage brighten somehow, and I'm in full waterproofs so only may face is flecked with drips.Kind of delightful #walking #walk #hike #hiking
