Do you call your TV remote a “clicker,” or is that something only old ppl do?

@BootsChantilly Could be a cultural or regional thing. This boomer calls it a remote. 🤷♂️

@BootsChantilly old people. My parents had a tv with a remote that “clicked” and it turned the dial on the tv to change the channel. Guessing that’s the origin.

@BootsChantilly Gen X here. I remember a few other households using the term as a kid, but never in my house.

@BootsChantilly we call it the clicker, we're 48 and 52, so we're verging on old.

We call it both “clicker” & “remote,” altho I think I use “clicker” much more often than Mr. Boots does.

@BootsChantilly Gen Z here. My parents and I called it a clicker when I was growing up, but in the last 10 or so years that changed. Nowadays I only call it a remote

@BootsChantilly As a child, I couldn't stand my family members saying "clicker" like unwashed hicks, so I would say, every time, "infra-red remote control unit."

@BootsChantilly Remote. I am old but don't remember hearing the term "clicker". I spent most of my adulthood in the Boston area. Perhaps it is regional?

@sboger Aha! I grew up w/ unwashed hicks—maybe that’s why I call it a “clicker!” Altho my adoptive parents never had a TV with any kind of remote, so I don’t think I actually heard “clicker” from them. But remotes did used to literally CLICK. I don’t know.A few ppl have said it might be regional, & it just may be.

@BootsChantilly My Dad always called it “The Phaser” and us kids did for a long time too, now it’s just “Remote”. He’s Boomer, we’re Gen X.

@BootsChantilly "Clicker" most often. Of course the first tv remote I used controlled the tv by clicking. It was not electronic.
