@histoire Would you rather have a more lush and lively nature or a more perfect utopia? In nature...- Everyone is spending their lives in all sorts of different ways- Some lives are damned to be lived in terrible ways- Nobody has everything- Help a neighbor outIn utopia...- On a certain level, everyone is the same and nothing ever changes- Everyone is happy- There's no war or fighting- Everyone gets a chance- Everyone is fulfilled- There is no nature. Only simulated nature where everyone is happy.- Nobody NEEDS anythingPersonally I prefer nature in spite of everyone being happy in the utopia. This seems like a paradox. Shouldn't I prefer the only way everyone can be happy? Shouldn't I prefer the one that appears to be the final evolution of humanity?

@SaulofTarsus Here's my continuation of it, meant for Histoire:The point is, nature has a higher survival rate than utopia. And you feel that instinctually. You feel instinctually that the diversity of nature is better than the conformity of this supposed utopia. This is true because diverse systems have less single points of failure ("SPOFs"). Diversity is incredibly resilient. Diseases are mostly incapable of spreading across species.Since it is impossible for us to know what the universe is truly made of, we must be prepared for everything. What if our universe is a simulation and the admin of our simulation decides to only save the damned lives while deleting the rest? It wouldn't be a very effective proliferation of our seed if we all died right then and there.Getting back to the "PETA would be proud" argument, I think this is why you defended keeping non-digital nature around so strongly: Getting rid of analog nature is destroying our own diversity, destroying our chances of survival in more unusual realities. In the face of unforeseen consequences.

@Nepiant Some would say that the struggle is what gives the reward meaning in the first place

@histoire Personally I don't believe in that idea. The struggle makes us appreciate the reward more, sure. But the idea that we need to struggle daily to remember the difference between good and bad is a joke, IMO.

@Nepiant And yet, people that live hedonistic or what some would consider 'utopian' lifestyles tend to be the most depressedPartly, it's due to the way our brain is wired I think. It's not a logical thing.

@histoire Anyway...The point is, nature has a higher survival rate than utopia. And you feel that instinctually.
