@rbreich banning medical debt is going to help a whopping 22,000 people per year get mortgages they probably cannot afford according to their own projectionsCapping credit card fees? A judge already blocked it:> US District Judge Mark T. Pittman granted a preliminary injunction to several business and banking organizations that allege the new rule violates several federal statutes. (May 11)At least be honest with your followers dude

@feld @rbreich Be mad at the judge that blocked it, not mad that it was blocked. Biden can't control that, and that's the point of a democracy. That's also still 4/5 successful policies. Don't let perfection be the enemy of really good.

@Avitus the non-competes ban wasn't done by Biden, but by the FTC. It's not a Biden policy. So that's just ridiculous. Also it already has two legal challenges being processed and it wasn't set to go into effect until September. So uhhh no he didn't do it, and while it may be happening it hasn't happened yet.Again, lies.https://www.hchlawyers.com/blog/2024/june/ftc-non-compete-ban-timeline/The Junk Fee rule doesn't go into effect until June 25th. It also is not something Biden is signing into law; it's just an FTC rule.https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2024/04/26/2024-07177/refunds-and-other-consumer-protectionsThe Fair Labor Standards Act doesn't go into effect until July 1st for some people and January 1 2025 for others. There are two legal challenges to this right now.https://www.callaborlaw.com/entry/legal-challenges-to-new-dol-rule-increasing-salary-basis-for-exempt-status-under-flsaSo. Negotiating drug prices. He's actually been President while 1/5 things listed happened. Let's not count our chickens before they're hatched.

@feld Banning medical debt from credit reports removes the main mechanism by which medical debt is enforced, and its victims kept in line. That's a step toward ending medical debt entirely.@rbreich

@argv_minus_one @rbreich That doesn't seem legal; that debt is debt. To significantly interfere with its collection would be violating private contracts. They absolutely still will enforce it and collect when possible. It's not much different than why Biden couldn't cancel all that student loan debt, only the ones backed by the federal gov and then finding clever loopholes elsewhere to relieve hyper targeted groups.

@feld @rbreich Nothing he said was a lie. You calling him a liar doesn’t magically make him one. These were all #biden policies announced and then enacted. If you don’t like progress or progressive policies that help people, ok. #trumpsocial might be a better fit for you.

@feld @Avitus Incorrect, the FTC is part of the federal government and the members of it are nominated by the President and approved by the Senate. The current head that is driving these actions is Lina Khan who was nominated and approved in 2021 by President Joe Biden. The president can take credt, to a degree, for nominating and working with Chair Khan. But so can Khan.

@feld @Avitus Only if you are stuck in corporate headspace. In this case Biden can say: "I nominated Khan because of what they can do for the FTC, and look at what they have done in the last 3 years enacting the policy based on those reasons."As far as I can tell, Biden has done just that.

@InkySchwartz @Avitus my original point was THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED YET AND IT IS ALREADY BEING CELEBRATEDThe non-compete ban does not exist yet. You can still be forced into signing them.Until September. Or if it gets blocked by a court. There are pending cases in Texas right now.So why are we spreading the news that Biden has done things that haven't actually materialized yet? As of today, zero Americans have been affected by it.

@InkySchwartz @Avitus I did make that my point. In fact, I pointed out that of all of the things that he posted about only the drug price negotiation has taken effect. All of the others? Blocked by courts or not happened yet. It's this constant disingenuous rhetoric that undermines trust in the government, politicians, and candidates.

There are two legal challenges to this right now.Credit card fees cap?> US District Judge Mark T. (May 11)The disinformation is telling everyone that Biden accomplished these things when they're not done yet.You can't claim accomplishments for unfinished work.
