What is the best plaintext editor for less technical people?Like, if a non technical friend was going to edit some config or a bit of boilerplatey code.Notepad / TextEdit wouldn't be great, but neither would emacs or vim (and they're not going to mess with any IDE).

@interfluidity What operating system?notepad++ on windows and vs code would probably be my recommendations, vs code is big overkill but reasonably easy to install

@interfluidity I'm probably not the target audience here, but I would vote for Sublime -- there are a lot of features, but the basics of the UI flow is pretty simple, and it will figure out a lot of syntax highlighting for common formats out of the box -- and lots of addons with snippets or custom language support etc if needed.textmate was pretty good but I do think the UI was a bit convoluted, and Notepad++ was even worse

@interfluidity Honestly, notepad is pretty solid imo.The next level up would probably be something like VS Code or Notepad++. They might be a little overkill, but they'll leave room to grow.

@interfluidity On windows, notepad++. On linux, i would hope nano, since it is not that bad... but if people use linux and hate command line interface, i am out. no good graphical editor for all perversions available.

@interfluidity I used to use Programmers notepad, but it's very very old now. I think it doesn't like windows 11 very much.https://www.pnotepad.org/It's built on Scintilla which tends to create very snappy editors.

@Hyolobrika @interfluidity Sounds reasonable since most people use gnome, but i wouldn't know since i stay away from both gnome and kde.

@admitsWrongIfProven @interfluidity I don't think gedit depends on GNOME, does it? It's just a GTK application.
