       @gsuberland @RFDave @lcamtuf Some of it is definitely due to cults around certain striker fired designs (looks in general direction of Glock) that I consider unreasonably dangerous and failure prone from an engineering perspective. Somehow a shocking number of people defend these designs as being good.A) lack of a manual safety selector, which has a history of causing problems due to clothing, seat belts, etc. snagging on triggers (especially when inserting into holsters)B) a design which requires the trigger to be pulled to release spring tension during the disassembly process. You don't have to be an expert marksman to see the ways *this* can go wrong.

       @gsuberland @RFDave @lcamtuf The fundamental job of any weapon, be it a nuclear missile or a sharpened stick, is to reliably damage or destroy the things you intend it to and nothing else.Both parts are important. It needs to work reliably when called upon, but also reliably not cause unwanted death and destruction.This includes defensive engineering and interlock designs to prevent unwanted functioning. This can range from requiring two keys and PAL authentication codes to launch an ICBM to a leather sheath around a sword.
