Just a little reminder that here in Europe, we play the same exact video games as youth from the United StatesWe do not have (daily) school shootings howeverInstead of blaming video games, start looking at the super easy to get weapons on each corner of street problemGames are not the problem, weapons are 🇺🇸

And ofc guns alone are not the "only problem", I am awareBut it is one of the major ones and people love to divert attention from this to other mattersBut instead of using matters like the LACK OF MENTAL HEALTH CARE they rather talk about their "rights"Other people have the right not to die, think about that instead 😉

@stux Not only that, we have European countries with almost as many weapons per person, like Switzerland, without as many shootings. It’s also social justice, a (mostly) functioning health care and health insurance system. If I get hit by a car tomorrow I can go to the hospital without having to worry about drowning in debt afterwards. If I lose my job, there will be a social security system that is far from perfect but it exists.

@stux unfortunately our constitution has a 2nd amendment which was written before there were automatic weapons and the like and the people in USA are and have been fed a ‘Cowboy’ mentality by the Gun Industry for the sole purpose of greed. The lives of all who have been harmed/killed isn’t even a second thought to those in power.

@stux We americans say this all the time, however, they (the govt.) do not listen and then take money from corporations. We would love to change things. But our government is so corrupt, where do you begin? Voting barely does anything but cause more divisiveness, especially in a 2 party system. We feel like we are drowning in a sea of issues that should not be issues.

@stux I always thought this is symptom of cultural and support net issue - if people don't have a place where they can safely talk about their problems, get support, especially when family malfunction and deep social isolation happens, shooting is more likely. To my knowledge, in EU support nets and these places and services where people go in case of any problems are developed much better than in US,and to my knowledge, in US you more likely to be ashamed for mere fact of having problems...

@stux I was going to say that we have daily MASS shootings, but SCHOOL shootings are rarer. Sadly, it looks like school shootings are between weekly and daily, depending on how you count.https://usafacts.org/articles/the-latest-government-data-on-school-shootings/https://www.cnn.com/us/school-shootings-fast-facts-dg/index.htmlhttps://www.statista.com/statistics/1463594/number-of-k-12-school-shootings-us/

@stux And often people in the U.S. don't recall there was a time not that long ago that the U.S. Supreme Court held the opinion that despite the existence of the 2nd Amendment, Americans did not have the right to own assault weapons. The gun corporate lobby (which is thoroughly merged with the theocratic christian lobby) spent $billions to corrupt the legislatures and the courts, and they fully succeeded in creating the powerful death cult we have today.

@stux small addition: it is not all about the easy access, but the relation to and the culture regarding fire weapons. In Switzerland the amount of guns per citizen is way higher than the us, but there are almost not incidents. Even kids shoot with real weapons, but always in a safe manner and they are taught how to safely use a gun. Also everyone is allowed to keep their rifle from their military service, but it is modified first to remove the auto fire.https://super8.absturztau.be/watch?v=EkuMLId8SqE

@stux @lisamelton It isn't just about availability. It isn't about mental health problems. It's also about a culture that positively promotes having guns *and shooting them at people* as an actively great thing to do:Have a burglar? Be the good guy and kill them.Someone trespassing on your land? Be the good guy and kill them. Someone not looking at you in the right way? Be the good guy and kill them. Someone the wrong skin colour? Be the good guy and kill them.

@stux the shootings that end up on TV are all coordinated by the government, not random peopleThere was a scandal a while back where a guy was found out in the desert training a camp of school shooters by the local sheriff. The feds had to get involved to sweep it under the rug since he was p well politically connected. The Mandalay bay shooting happened soon after and pushed it out of the news (no motive or explanation into how it occurred for that one)

@stux Only correction, but an important one.US school shooters don't get their guns "on the street."Guns are extremely expensive. US school shooters are usually rich, white, men and boys (~85%) and use guns legally owned by their families.I don't think people realize how expensive guns are, and how much US gun ownership is concentrated in rich, white, men.As you look at this picture, realize that each AR 15 costs about $1000.00.
