… and the stupid wind took my hat. I didn’t even have it on I was holding it worried about the wind — pulled it right out of my hand. How did people live wearing hats all the time!? Maybe the MTA people have some kind of grabber??

Everyone relax! I got the hat back. The MTA PD does have grabbers. (they said mostly they use them to grab air pods) It’s worse than those carnival games. We all took turns. The guy on the right managed to get it. The day is saved! hurrah! (this is one of the most busy tracks in the country going down there is just *not* going to happen. I’m glad I didn’t get the rather expensive hat I was considering— but now this cheap hat is even better since I got it back)

@futurebird hat pins— large hair pins that supposedly can hold hats to the head—and scarves.I'm not sure how well these tricks work with current hair conditioning while we tend to go more for clean or slick than powdered and thick hair.Anyway, I'm pleased your hat was recovered. The photo with the grabber is fun.

@futurebird Wow. Great! I feel with you, I lost several hats and baseball caps due to the wind, they ended up on busy roads or were blown away over hedges where I couldn't find them again. Each time it was annoying. Great that you got help and the grabber looks very professional!

@futurebird you are much wiser than me, i once got a hat pulled in by the wind created from a train, in paris, onto the track, i looked at the time for the next train, which was 3 minutes i think? went down the stairs at the end of the dock(?), walked to it, picked it up 😬 and made the way back. Terrible idea for sure, but another one of these i survived. 😅

@futurebird fun fact - turn of the 20th century women on the subway used to defend themselves with hat pins. Creeper grab your butt? Stick him with a hat pin.The response was to ban hat pins.Loosing your hat on the subway due to lack of hat pins likely goes back loooooong way.
