Adobe is trying to claim right of access to all of your projects, regardless of things like NDA, meaning that they are willing to violate HIPAA laws, FERPA laws, and any number of binding civil structures:https://appleinsider.com/articles/24/06/06/adobes-new-terms-of-service-unacceptably-gives-them-access-to-all-of-your-projects-for-free If you're in the US, you can contact the FTC here: https://www.ftc.gov/media/71268and provide them with this contact information Adobe 345 Park Avenue San Jose, CA 95110-2704 Tel: 408-536-6000 Fax: 408-537-6000I don't know the specifics of the process in the EU, but here might be a good place to start:https://commission.europa.eu/law/law-topic/data-protection_en

@Wolven Yeah, the text of their notice sounded a bit more threatening and draconian than usual. I'm forced to use Adobe products for work, but I don't keep anything in their cloud. So I guess it'll have to be Microsoft who screenshot scrapes my stuff.

@Wolven Adobe won't sign a DPA so we can't even use them in our school system, at least not for students. I'll have to bring this up though, since it's occasionally used to create forms.

@Wolven I said immediately that no judge would allow this, because if it were possible, no type of copyright would exist.

@Wolven @michcampbell the lesson is to never use adobe. I don’t keep it installed because the endless updates are annoying

@Wolven Apparently #piracy is only a problem when poor citizens engage in it out of necessity. Not blaming anyone, but to me it sometimes looks like the US has a two-tier society, where large corporations are first-class citizens and not subject to the same enforcement policies on laws than second-class human citizens.#AI #intellectualproperty

@Wolven that's why whoever can use alternative software tools should switch as soon as possible to #opensource , where this kind of vendor lock-in is not possible. when a distributor blackmails the users with undesired changes in opensource it's a quick matter of duplicating (forking) the project and change distributor. Although opensource is usually free to obtain, switching from other software could imply learning new usage patterns, or missing some features: it's not something that can be done overnight. The good news is that being free you can start using opensource sw in parallel with the software you're used to, to smooth the transition and be ready if things keep going south. The best moment could have been months ago, the second best is now.

@Wolven There are free, open-source alternatives that can save significant money in the long run. A reluctance to learn something new is not a valid excuse. Change should begin at the grassroots level, with individual contractors making independent decisions not to use Adobe. From there, it can expand to startups, small businesses, and eventually large corporations over the years. Transformation doesn't happen overnight; it takes time and starts small.

@luvcie You're misunderstanding the point: It's a logistical shift that they absolutely WILL resist, and while you're doing the work on getting them to make the change, the depredations of Adobe (or Microsoft, or Zoom, or Google) will continue, and likely be tied AGAIN, by other elements of those institutional ecosystems. So maybe aiming at the "Get An FTC/EU Investigation Started" can be the first step in that process?Anyway. Bye.

@Wolven I understand, and I wasn't disagreeing. My comment was simply an additional note. What big tech corporations are doing should be illegal and investigated. However, history has shown that such investigations typically result in nothing more than a slap on the wrist. I would insist to at least starting to get away from it, contractors should avoid using those software solutions. And startups should build their ecosystems around open-source software.

@alexskunz I'll believe it when this actually happens and that "clarification" explicitly says they won't be training on user data.
