@stux having this same discussion with a scientific panel here in the US - one of my objectives is to highlight the damage being done by a lack of science and health literacy

@Smootasaurus We really must take action and soon.. 😟 I get soooo worried when I hear about the "general understanding" of the platforms people use all around meThe lack of awareness is scary, and those people have kids

@stux It's the same thing as sex education, social/relationship education, [an eclectic] religious education, civic education... You need to be able to deal with the world, and sometimes parts of the world are complicated enough that it's hard simply to muddle through the experience.

@stux @stux as an IT teacher I could say that teaching a better use of the internet does not imply changing behavior. Just think of all we preach about privacy to which people turn a deaf ear. I guess that the solution lies in something analogue to what Iceland did with the problem of teenagers with alcohol: offer them better alternatives!https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2017/01/teens-drugs-iceland/513668/

@stux I suspect most teens are familiar with how to use the Internet safely. The problem is most of the damage comes from the very people we'd teach them are acceptable: family, schoolmates and so on. We don't teach them how to deal with the same things in the real world very well either.
