@volpeon i built one in college, large touch screens really didnt exist then. So using a layer of silicon gel, a difuser, a camera down at the bottom center and a ir transparent visual light mirror. The table glass or acrylic was edge lit with ir leds and the camera in the table has an ir filter so it only sees the reflected light as the silicon changes the optical properties of the acrylic when pressed.

@volpeon it was an actual table that used an actual projector to project the image on a rear projection surface table top.
