At some point, it became Democratic orthodoxy that we must never judge candidates or expect better from them because every election is the most important election in history, a continual crisis where we have to pragmatically make tough choices in order to avoid an even worse outcome. And fine, okay, but the crisis never ends, does it? The people who run on stopping the greater evil never do, nothing is done about it, our options get worse, and it feels like we're being taken advantage of.

@gwynnion Yes, voting and democracy means " ... a continual crisis where we have to pragmatically make tough choices in order to avoid an even worse outcome..."Sorry to be harsh, But yes, that is how representative democracy works. None of us gets everything/all the time. We have to continually pick through the dumpster fire for the least rotten fruit. That IS the process. Or autocracy. Thats pretty much the choice. Please vote. Pick the least rotten fruit from disappointing choices.

Of course, elections are important. Of course, we should want to defeat Trump and Republicans. But it starts to feel like the candidates foisted on us would prefer to keep us in a state of panic so we don't ask too many questions about them. There is good reason why we should decouple their personal ambitions and the stakes of an election from our principles and policy preferences. They need to KNOW when we disagree with them and that it's up to THEM to win elections by doing what WE want.

Because candidates who stake out common sense moral positions that actually help people tend to do better in elections for one thing, even if it's not a guarantee for various reasons, whereas candidates who continually whiff at solving problems and support the status quo start to acquire a certain stink.

For example, it will be Biden's fault if he loses this election because of his unflinching support for genocide or because he doesn't care how a bifurcated economy is affecting people.People keep telling him he's fucking up.He doesn't care. That's a him problem. And yeah, we'll all suffer for it. Which is why we're so pissed.

If you're a Democrat and a majority of Democrats want you to do X, and especially if a majority of Democrats and "independents" want you to do X, you'd better have a FUCKING GOOD REASON to risk losing an election to a fascist by refusing to do X. And when X is "don't enable genocide," there is no good reason.

@gwynnion the party is a private corporation and the crisis rhetoric raises funds. That's all you need to know.
