Pff.. I just got cut off on my bike by this triple A hole with his massive window blinded SUV on the bike lane while he was holding his phone making a call I was signing and yelling he should put his phone done and open his eyes, didn't take much of his car would have enjoyed the frame of my bikeSeemed like a "though businessman" or perhaps even a diplomat with foreign licence who did like he "owned the place" but not when I'm aroundI don't care for your status, act like a human or ...

@stux A heavy enough thump on the roof of the car wakes them up. Better make sure you've got an escape route first though.And if it's a white van (other colours may be available, but you don't see them very often) you can make a godawful noise inside the van and scare the shit out of the driver by shoulder-barging the side panel without hurting yourself at all.

@GottaLaff It's a shame though :sadlinux: I've always wanted to move to the US so badly for a good 12-15 years, that's about half my life but now I come to realize the real US a bit more and it scares but also saddens me a loot

@stux I have the luck (?) of cycling a #speedpedelec here in Germany. Drivers feel very uncomfortable if I show up at the next traffic light and knock on their window and ask WTF they were thinking while trying to kill me.

All togerher bundled in a package but not with soo much extremeness going onDon't get me wrong, the Netherlands is a real paradise if it comes to healthcare, roads etc but its also boring :sad_cat: Winter depression really gets me more and more each year

@stux It wasn't ALWAYS that bad - I bike commuted in the 90's and aughts, and I can count active roadrage incidents on one hand. Mostly it's just people being inattentive or rude.

@stux I get that. I'm from So. Calif, and I love it, but not as much now: droughts, heat, not enough rain, and of course, US politics (although Calif is blue, thankfully).No place is safe from those things now, though. But at least some are safER.I hope you get your dream!

@stux @GottaLaff we moved to the US from Scotland back in the 80s. Had a good life, but we then decided to start a family and thought no way are we bringing kids up here and moved back to Scotland before settling in Norway. Now retired and back in Scotland.

@stux I live in Phoenix Arizona, a western US state that has massive low density sprawl, cars are a nightmare for bicyclists and pedestrians. I think I saw @dave post a plot showing that we’re getting close to one death per day here (though it may be a few years off)

@stux I used to live in Portland, Oregon, which was/is considered a bicycle town. I’m alive today because I always wore my helmet. BOTH TIMES I got hit was by drivers driving in the wrong lane or making an illegal turn. And then I found out that cops and insurance do not care. In the US, bicycle riders are 2nd or 3rd class citizens.I envy the Dutch their bike culture, bike laws, bike garages, and how ordinary it is to have bikes EVERYWHERE.I’d sooner emigrate to NL.

@stux @islekcaganmert @GottaLaff A lot of America is like that, too. Especially mid-size cities full of dangerous "stroads" that look the same from state to state. Rural is green grass, brown grass, cows and/or horses or corn or wheat for miles. Or trees that look so similar you feel like you must be going in circles.

@stux you’re generalizing 300m people divided in 50 states. It depends on the area where you move. In #sfba you will be fine because too many drivers have bikes and understand how it feels to ride a bike on the street with cars.
