Do you remember what it was like to be 19 or 20 and confused and angry? Ever wish that there was music written by confused angry 19 or 20 year olds you could vibe with? My friends in The New Clear Lawn Chairs recorded this album when they were 19 or 20 (I honestly don't know which. Sometimes the words are "Now I'm 19 years old" and less than 10 minutes later the words are "and I'm 20 years old" and ... I think Jon maybe just didn't know how old he was?) https://thenewclearlawnchairs.bandcamp.com/album/voted-most-chill-in-high-school

Voted Most Chill In Highschool was the first CD/Cassette our label put out, 10 years ago (that's right, now Jon is 29 or 30!) and every once in a while, I bully the band in to getting back together and performing. Here are some examples of that from 22 and 23. https://vod.newellijay.tv/search?search=new%20clear%20lawn%20chairs&searchTarget=localVoted Most Chill In Highschool was also 1/2 of our first vinyl release. I had 1000 copies pressed of it in an orange and green splatter. Was this a good idea? Absolutely not! but it was the only thing that had the right sense of cosmic justice.

(The other side of that first vinyl LP is Hurly Burly and the Volcanic Fallout, @DoctorDeathray's highschool band, back together and recorded in our newly built studio. Hurly Burly and the Volcanic Fallout played the launch party for our magazine, which became the way we funded our record store's opening. That was a little over 11 years ago now. HBATVF got back together when we opened our studio, and recorded Giant Robot Jetpack, featuring a bunch of songs from when they were in highschool, and some new material. They hadn't performed together in 8 or 9 years at that point, and it had been 5 or 6 years from there back to the previous show. Sometimes I bully them in to getting back together too. )

Of course, we have released albums entirely unrelated to highschool as well. Eli Pop, for example, does some shoegaze-y, surf-y, psych music https://elipopmusic.bandcamp.com/album/its-all-aroundEli originally released this album with Burger Records on cassette, but then it turned out that the people who ran Burger were bad people and we managed to work with him to re-release it. Eli lives here in town, entirely through coincidence.

Doctor Deathray - Post Apocalyptic blues rock from fediverse personalities: https://doctordeathray.bandcamp.com/album/51-miles-from-nowhere?label=1708079041Somehow, every person featured on this record is on the fediverse somewhere. Hell, several of them only met because of this place. It's an album about loss and belonging. It's an album about driving 100 miles a day in order to feel less alone. It's an album about the corporations that seek to control your brain, and the scant few ways we have of meaningfully fighting back against them. And it's by @DoctorDeathray which is nice.

Red Hot Empty does the angriest punk you've ever heard: https://redhotempty.bandcamp.com/album/corridorsWay back when, the guitarist from RHE was in another punk band with the main dude from Eli Pop, but that was before I met either of them. I dunno how we got lucky enough to work together.

The one I'm the most excited about is MCP. Michael Cera Palin does "midwest" emo but really it's as Metro Atlanta as any album I've ever heard: https://michaelcerapalin.bandcamp.com/album/the-loose-ends-of-act-1-2015-2020-remasteredThey recorded their next album at our studio last year, but haven't released it yet. They're on a UK/EU tour right now. We got the rights to do the first wide release of their first two EPs (there was a previous, very limited run from a label that has since gone out of business.) This one should be pressed and released soon.

I was at the first show Elliot played to the public. They stood on my desk and played to five or six people in our record store. I was at the second MCP show, which was them performing as a duo (they're usually a trio, but someone had to work that day) at a library. More libraries should host rock bands.

Oh! and we have an album out from Small. It's not on their bandcamp yet, but you can hear half of it here: https://smalltheband.bandcamp.com/album/decathexis-2And, if you want, you can buy it here: https://www.hemlockbazaar.com/product/small-limited-edition-decathexis-lp-vinyl/I don't really know how to describe the music Small makes. They call it "fuckpunk" which uhhh... yeah, that works.

I hadn't really intended to spend the morning talking about our music, but I came in with a hankering for the Chairs and figured I'd share.

@Elizabeth3 not this one, no. They did everything themselves. Most of our work is done by @DoctorDeathray
