Well this is fucking annoying. There was an air force emergency communication network called GWEN, (ground wave emergency network), there was one in Essex CA and I took many photos of the site, which was live when I first visited then deceased later, then decommisioned and the site cleared (every stick and post). It was only operational a couple years at the end of the 90s.I posted a few photos at the wikipedia site.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN%2FURC-117_Ground_Wave_Emergency_NetworkWell I can't find my photos, I'm fairly diligent about renaming at least some of the photos (the only photo "database" that survives the decades) and... nothing.Went back to wikipedia and there's no photos any more. And the site is listed as Fenner CA and it was most definitely in Essex; adjoining town, but this was IN TOWN on the main street (route 66). Now I have no GWEN pics and I am annoyed.

@tomjennings There are three pictures attributed to you in the gallery for that page; at least I see them, maybe you have them hidden somehow?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN%2FURC-117_Ground_Wave_Emergency_Network#/media/File:Essex,_CA_GWEN_site_1.jpghttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN%2FURC-117_Ground_Wave_Emergency_Network#/media/File:GWEN_Essex_CA_updated_GPD_diff_gear_1.jpghttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN%2FURC-117_Ground_Wave_Emergency_Network#/media/File:Essex_CA,_GWEN_rf_rad_warning_sign.jpg

@nafmo Woah! Thanks! Must be operator error... Sheesh. I didn't look close enough. That's a huge relief. Thanks.

There was one of those things on the highway from Denton to McKinney, back when I lived there in the '90s. I always wondered what it was. It was approximately here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/BbQY5vtECz8cKVLx8 Could have been a mile or so one way or the other, I don't remember. There is also a big FEMA office near that location, in a huge mound of dirt. Apparently it's supposed to be nuke-proof or something. There was another road leading out of Denton named "Missile Base Road". The old "base" was a decoy, with large concrete rectangles laid out on a big cattle ranch. There were no people there, no base, it was apparently built to distract the Soviet sat-photo analysts.

Addendum: maybe it wasn't a GWEN station. There was a tower with array(s) of radial long wires, but it was nowhere near that tall.
