Sometimes I think maybe I should leave Arch and play around with another distro, but then I realize I'd probably break it just as much so why bother

@BrodieOnLinux could try some immutable distro.Universal Blue (Bazzite or Bluefin) would be great, and there's VanillaOS and blendOS of the big three easy-to-use immutable OS.Then there's also NixOS - should be fine even if you break it so long as you didn't remove prev generation and your config file backups before you properly test new generation.I personally find normal distro to be both boring and fragile now that I make my own Bazzite and Aurora (Bluefin-KDE) images.

@fenglengshun If I was going to do something immutable it probably would be something in the Universal Blue line

@BrodieOnLinux I'm pretty happy with my Silverblue + archlinux in distrobox setup. (after having used Arch exclusively for 12 years, I can't let go of the AUR, so distrobox it is).But then again I use regular GNOME and don't play around with different desktops and tiling wayland compositors 🤷

@BrodieOnLinux And it did actually break on me less than plain Arch did! I guess that's the important information here.

@BrodieOnLinux idk why but lately every time I do a full upgrade with yay the system completely freezes halfway through the process and breaks the entire installation. Then I have to chroot and fix all the broken / half-installed packages. So I’m also tempted but yeah, other distros would probably just break in some other way…

Why not consider giving NixOS a try for three months like @thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org did for OpenSUSE?@FSMaxB@mastodon.cloud @Ryan@mastodon.mackners.com @BrodieOnLinux@linuxrocks.online @fenglengshun@mastodon.social @akinzekeel@mstdn.social

@BrodieOnLinux I feel similarly. I have far too many customized packages at this point to switch to another distro. I try to upstream as much as possible, but new patches come up about as fast as I can get rid of them. The AUR and makepkg/PKGBUILDs are a godsend in how they enable tinkering with pkgs. I feel that with another distro it would take a while for me to adjust to different packaging. Fedora with COPR would probably be fine, but anything APT-based would likely be horrible for me.

@BrodieOnLinux @fenglengshun They have options for setting up a repo for a custom setup with upstream syncing, might end up going with that.

@BrodieOnLinux The only option for Arch is Artix. After years with Aur and Pacman you just can't settle anything where they aren't represent.
