The whole mentality behind this speaks to some notion that Trump supporters have about being rewarded, or favored by participating in the movement?Maybe that's why some participate in rallies and advertise their allegiance?

@futurebird threats seem to be the primary way fascists and the GOP control people. It's part of their nature. I suspect threats are how GOP Congressional leaders have always gotten near-unanimous cooperation from their party on votes.

@futurebird @martinvermeer I noticed they had careful wording there. They know whether you vote or not. It's carefully worded to be true. They don't say they know who you voted for in the letter. However, the whole "we'll report you to the regime commander" thing does kind of add an implication of "vote for him or else" for those who miss the nuance.

@futurebird I think it's more nefarious than that. There are folks that have made Trumpism their identity, and this plays against the fear of being ex-communicated from the group. People choose death over being ostracized, and the folk running this know that well. Being part of the larger group and showing allegiance is why so many look past logic and reason and continue to support the group.

@futurebird you’re not wrong, but this tactic didn’t start with Trump. I don’t know when the first research came out that social pressure was a strong GOTV motivator, but 20 years ago when I was still doing campaigns the big GOTV operations were sending similar letters.
