NTFS was like decades ahead of any Linux filesystem. it had encryption, compression, resident files, file changelogs, deduplication and sparse files before anyone ever dreamt of that in the Linux world. and it still didn't catch up.transparent compression and deduplication do be looking sexy, but the only choices you have is btrfs (perpetually unstable) or zfs (resource hog)

@kspalaiologosDid you mention instant snapshots? Windows also had an API to speak with apps to ensure that snapshots of apps' data will be not just atomic but also consistent.
