@aral if you are looking for an alternative that just works : Searxng. I been using the free search.club instance for months now and didn't even know the vast majority of popular alternative search engines went down, like one big Bing of a sweep. Searxxng is a federated like search engine it works almost like Mastodon. But, the instances don't necessarily communicate with one another.If one instance goes down then you can switch instances and still use Searxxng like nothing had happened.

@aral If I'm not wrong these services just handle the client side differently. They probably source results from the same place but minimizes personal data collection and telemetry provided to the corporations running the service.
