I am all for green energy, I wish we could replace our total energy consumption with green alternatives right now. Unfortunately at this point we can’tOur energy use is only gonna increase and with hypes like AI it’s even worse, and while we need to keep working on switching to alternatives. Let’s not resort to drastic measures like mining & burning even more brown coal@arjenlubach has a nice explainer on why we should not push away nuclear (yet)

@stux @arjenlubach any new nuclear power will come on in 20+ years and cost 7x of renewables, plus the cost to store the radioactive waste... Quick buildup of wind and solar would be most effective

@stux @arjenlubach Excellent video. Glad it had subtitles! I couldn't agree more. Nuclear energy works and is proven safe. I think we also need to accelerate nuclear research to include improved/safer nuclear technologies, e.g. thorium reactors, molten salt reactors, etc. This is definitely an AND issue. We also need to continue building out wind and solar power, improve electrical distribution, and not forget improving battery and other storage technologies. TY for sharing.

@stux @arjenlubach Niu nog nieuwe kerncentrales bouwen is dom, want met dat geld kun je veel beter echt groene energie gaan opwekken dat ook direct werkt en niet pas over 20 jaar als de energietransitie allang voltooid zou moeten zijn. Maar bestaande kerncentrales die nog goed zijn sluiten is waanzin.
